Whitefield George Nicholson 101184. Died on the 4th of June 1917. He was a gunner with "D" Bty. 51st Bde. Royal Field Artillery. He is buried in ATHIES COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION France. He was born in Dublin and was about 26 years old when he died.

Robert Burton Benison

Robert Burton Benison, Second Lieutenant 2nd Battalion The Connaught Rangers. Died on the 20th of September 1914 aged 23. He was the Son of John J. and Marie Benison of Slieve Russell, Ballyconnell Co. Cavan. He is buried in Vendresse British Cemetery, Aisne, France.

Cyril Harvey Kelly Private 3501 16th Bn. Australian Infantry, A.I.F. He was the son of the late Mr. W. T. Kelly of Waterford and the stepson of Mr Charles Downey of ‘Northesk’ Lansdowne, Limerick. He was born in Waterford, he was 31 years old and had worked as a commercial Clerk before the war.

Henry Couper Mills

Henry Couper Mills, Boy 1st Class Royal Navy died on H.M.S. Indefatigable in the Battle of Jutland. He was 17 years old and a native of Dublin.

Robert Andrew De Stacpoole

Robert Andrew De Stacpoole, Second Lieutenant 2nd Battalion The Connaught Rangers died on the 20th of September 1914 aged 22. he was the Son of the Duke of Stacpoole, Justice of the Peace. Co. Galway. He is remembered on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.

Geoffrey Russell Fenton

Geoffrey Russell Fenton, Lieutenant with the 2nd Battalion The Connaught Rangers. He died on the 20th of September 1914 aged 24. He was the Son of William Russell Fenton, D.L., and Josephine Fenton, of Ardaghowen, Sligo and husband of Millicent Agnes Fenton, of Hampton Court Palace, Middlesex. He is remembered on the La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.

George Haire

George Haire. Lieutenant 6th Battalion The Connaught Rangers. Died of wounds on the 7th of January 1917. He was Born in Co. Sligo and the Son of the Rev. Canon W. J. Haire and Mary Elizabeth Haire, of Gurteen Laughton, Lewes. He is buried in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Heuvelland, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

John Irwin Fraser

John Irwin Fraser, Lieutenant 2nd Battalion The Connaught Rangers. Died on the 14th of September 1914. He was the Son of the late John Fraser, of Riversdale, Boyle, Co. Roscommon. He is buried in Vailly British Cemetery, Aisne, France. 

Christopher James Hughes. Captain 4th Battalion The Connaught Rangers. Died on the 13th of May 1916 aged 33. Son of Christopher and Nannie Hughes, of Graiguenamanah, Co. Kilkenny. Educated at Clongowes Wood College, Ireland. Gazetted to the 3rd Bn. Connaught Rangers in 1901. Served in the South African Campaign with 3rd Bn. Highland Light Inf. (1902). He is remembered on the Basra War Memorial Iraq.

Donal Charles O’Connell

Donal Charles O’Connell. Second Lieutenant 4th Battalion The Connaught Rangers attached the 8th Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 9th of September 1916 aged 21. He was the son of James John O'Connell, of "Arona", Clonskeagh, Co. Dublin. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

George Seymour Russell Stritch MD. Captain 6th Battalion The Connaught Rangers. Killed in Action in Flanders on the 7th of February 1916 aged 55. Husband of Mrs. Margaret Stritch, of 3, Gardiner Place, Dublin. M.D. Studied for Medical Doctorate at Trinity College Dublin. L.R.C.P & S (Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians and the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh). Captain 5th Durham Light Infantry September 1914, Captain 6th Connaught Rangers May 1915. A native of Dublin City. He is buried in Noeux-les-Mines Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

Charles Frederick Bailey

Charles Frederick Bailey. Second Lieutenant 8th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers attached to the Trench Mortar Battery. Died on the 9th of May 1916 aged 33. He was the son of Alice Bailey, of Eastville, Dunmanway, Co. Cork, and the late Charles Bailey, of Marksbury, Bath. He is buried in the Mazingarbe Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas de Calais, France. 

Arthur Grove Colles

Arthur Grove Colles. Captain attached to the 1st Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died on the 12th of March 1915 aged 24. He was the son of Alexander and Georgina Colles, of 3, Elgin Rd., Dublin. He is remembered on the Le Touret Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

William Symes Drury

William Symes Drury. Lieutenant 6th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died on the 29 of January 1916. He was the son of Thomas C. Drury, K.C., of Richmond House, 30, Rathgar Rd., Dublin. He is buried in the Noeux-les-Mines Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

William George Massy Eagar

William George Massy Eagar. Captain 3rd Battalion attached 1st Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died on the 21st of August 1915 aged 23. He was the son of W. J. A. and Ida J. Eagar, of "Iveragh," Church Rd., Greystones, Co. Wicklow. He is remembered on the Helles Memorial Turkey.

Alexander Crichton Cooper Haines

Alexander Crichton Cooper Haines. Second Lieutenant 2nd Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died on the 8th of May 1915 aged 20. He was the only son of Caroline Anne Haines (nee Cooper), of 9, Merrion Row, St. Stephen's Green, Dublin, and the late John Crichton Haines. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

Noel John Davies

Noel John Davies. Second Lieutenant 8th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 27 of April 1916 aged 25. he was the son of Mrs. A. Davies, of 46, Kenilworth Park, Rathgar, Dublin. He is buried in Noeux-les-Mines Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.


John Alan Harvey

John Alan Harvey. Second Lieutenant 11th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 20th of November 1917 aged 20. He was the only son of the Rev. Ralph Harvey and Hannah Constance Harvey, of The Rectory, Charleville, Co. Cork. He is buried in Croisilles British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

Poole Henry Hickman

Poole Henry Hickman. Captain 7th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died on the 15th of August 1915 aged 35 from wounds received Dardanelles. Born in County Clare. He was a Barrister at Law B.A Trinity College Dublin 1902. Promoted to Lieutenant September 1914 Captain January 1915. He was the Son of Francis William and Elizabeth B. Gore Hickman, of 23, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin. He is remembered on the Helles memorial Turkey.

Douglas Ian Inglis

Douglas Ian Inglis. Second Lieutenant 3rd battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 7th of February 1917 aged 21. He was the son of Mr. I. A. Inglis, of St. James, Drogheda. Joined 1914. He is buried in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Heuvelland, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Ernest Lawrence Julian.

Lieutenant D Company 7th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Barrister at Law, BA Trinity College Dublin 1897 Ex-Reid professor of Criminal Law. Promoted Lieutenant September 1914. He died from wound received Dardanelles on the 8th of August 1915. He was a native of Dublin City. Son of the late John and Margaret Julian, of Drumbane, Birr, King's County. He is remembered on the Helles Memorial Turkey.

Frank Brendan O’Carroll

Frank Brendan O’Carroll. Second Lieutenant 6th battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died on the 10th of August 1915 aged 20. He was the Son of Joseph O'Carroll, M.D., F.R.C.P.I., and Frances O'Carroll, of 43, Merrion Square, Dublin. He is remembered on the Helles Memorial Turkey.

Thomas Michael Kettle.

Lieutenant 9th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 9th of September 1916 aged 36. He was the son of Andrew J. and Margaret Kettle, of Newtown, St. Margaret's, Co. Dublin; husband of Mary S. Kettle (nee Sheehy), of 3, Belgrave Park, Rathmines, Dublin. Member of Parliament for East Tyrone, and the Professor of National Economics at University College, Dublin. Poet, journalist, essayist and idealist. A leading Irish Nationalist, he joined the Dublin Fusiliers when Belgium was attacked, to fight "not for England, but for small nations." One of the outstanding Irishmen of his generation, he wrote a number of war poems. Killed in action at the Battle of the Somme. Poems and Parodies, published 1916, and The Ways of War, published 1917. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Dudley Eyre Persse 

Dudley Eyre Persse, Captain with the 4th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers attached to the 2nd Battalion. Died on the 1st of February 1915 aged 22. He was the Son of Alfred Lovaine Persse and Florence G. Persse, of Cragmoher, Corofin, Co. Clare. He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery, Nrod, France.

William Reeves Richards.

Captain (Adjutant) 6th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Killed in Action Dardanelles on the 15th of August 1915, h was mentioned in dispatches. He was the son of John William Richards, J.P. (of Rath, Greystones, Co. Wicklow, and 51, Merrion Square, Dublin) and of Adelaide Prudentia Richards (nee Roper). He is buried in Green Hill Cemetery Turkey.

Richard Brinsley Sheridan

Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Lieutenant 8th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died on the 7th of March 1916 aged 26. He was the Son of John R. and Helen Sheridan. Native of Dugort, Achill Island, Co. Mayo. He is buried in Lillers Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

Robert Lepper Valentine.

Lieutenant 8th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died of wounds received on the 30th of April 1916 aged 26. he was the Son of the late William J. and Grace Dalton Valentine, of Enniskillen, Ireland. Inventor of a quick-firing improvement to the Lewis Machine Gun. Appointed assistant surveyor to the Geological Survey of Ireland, by competitive examination, after enlistment in the 7th Bn. Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He is buried in the Noeux-les-Mines Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

The Honourable Andrew Edward Somerset Mulholland.

Captain 1st Battalion The Irish Guards. Died on the 1st of November 1914 aged 32. He was the Son of 2nd Baron Dunleath and Baroness Dunleath, of Ballywater Park, Co. Down Ireland and husband of Lady Joan Mulholland (now Countess of Cavan), of 22, Great Cumberland Place, London. He is buried in Ypres Town Cemetery, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Robert Lepper Valentine.

Lieutenant 8th Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Died of wounds received on the 30th of April 1916 aged 26. he was the Son of the late William J. and Grace Dalton Valentine, of Enniskillen, Ireland. Sinclair Baxter Coghill. Second Lieutenant 5th attached 8th Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 9th of September 1916 aged 22. He was the son of Alexander S. and Rhoda A. Coghill, of 100, Marlborough Rd., Donnybrook, Dublin. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Donald James Grubb

Donald James Grubb. Second Lieutenant 5th Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Died on the 15th of August 1915 aged 20. He was the only son of the Rev. James and Jessie Grubb, of Belfast. Educated at Wesley College, Dublin. A member of the O.T.C., Queen's University, Belfast. He is remembered on the Helles Memorial Turkey.

Francis George Jones.

Lieutenant Colonel 1st Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Died on the 5th of May 1915 aged 51. He was the son of the Rev. Edward G. and Eliza W. Jones, of Cecilstown Lodge, Mallow, Co. Cork. Awarded Indian G.S. Medal (Chin Hills, 1892-93). Medal for Tirah Campaign (2 clasps "Tirah" 1897-82nd "Punjab Frontier" 1897-8); and Queen's South African Medal, with 3 clasps, (Brevet Major, twice Mentioned in Despatches). He is remembered on the Helles Memorial Turkey.

Charles James William Kane Lendrum.

Major 3rd battalion attached 1st Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Died of wounds on the 13th of November 1916 aged 28. Mentioned in Dispatches. Only son of Mrs. James Lendrum, of Bundoran, Co. Donegal, and the late Maj. James Vesey Lendrum (Seaforth Highlanders). He is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France.

Noel Desmond Trimble

Noel Desmond Trimble. Second Lieutenant 12th attached 8th Battalion The Royal Enniskilling Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 29th of April 1916 aged 20. Son of W. C. and Lily Trimble, of Century House, Enniskillen. Former student of Trinity College Dublin where he enrolled in 1913. The image gives his initials as L. D. and he is listed in the Trinity Collage Roll as Noel Desmond.

Francis Alfred Joseph Brown. Second Lieutenant 6th battalion The Leinster Regiment attached to the 8th Battalion The Royal Munster Fusiliers. Killed in action on the 9th of September 1916 aged 22. He was the son of Jane Eleanor Brown, of 19, Ballyholme Esplanade, Bangor, Co. Down., and the late William Henry Brown. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

William Nagle Creagh. Second Lieutenant 3rd battalion The Leinster Regiment. Died of wounds on the 7th of march 1917 aged 36. He was the son of William and Emma Creagh, of Mallow, Co. Cork; husband of Christina M. Creagh, of 3, Cornwall Terrace, Regent's Park, London. He is buried in Pond Farm Cemetery, Heuvelland, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Reginald Horace Crosbie Gilliat. Captain 5th Battalion The Leinster Regiment attached to the 1st (formally 2nd Bn) The Connaught Rangers. He was born in County Meath Ireland and was the Son of Mr. C. Gilliat, of New Club, Cheltenham, Glos. He is buried in Rue-du-Bacquerot No.1 Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

Harry Pemberton Dudley.

Harry Pemberton Dudley. Second Lieutenant 3rd Battalion The Leinster Regiment. Killed in action on the 3rd of September 1916 aged 36. He was the 3rd son of the late Henry N Dudley M.D. formerly of Kinnitty King’s County and afterwards Durrow Queen’s County. He was born in Kinnitty on the 8th of May 1880. Married to Mary Elizabeth nee Pemberton of 2 Burdett Avenue Sandycove the daughter of John Pemberton of Blackrock. Educated by private tuition, Lanly School and Dublin. He was living in Singapore and returned home at the out-break of war, he joined 7th (service) Battalion The Royal Dublin Fusiliers, went to the Dardanelles where he was severely wounded at Suvla Bay in August 1915. After recovery he was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant 3rd Leinster Regiment in November 1915. Went to France in July 1916 attached to the 2nd Royal Irish Regiment and was killed in action near Guillemot on the 3rd of September 1916.

Albert Fisher Gibson. 4th Battalion The Leinster Regiment attached to the 4th Squadron The Royal Flying Corps. Killed in action on the 24th of March 1917. He was the son of Robert Dane Gibson and Amy Gibson, of 20, Morehampton Road, Dublin. He is buried in Beugnatre Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
